The Art of Breakfast

The Art of Breakfast
health & fitness /

Breakfast is the first meal of the day and is said to be the most important. However, it is easy to fall into a pattern of ignoring what we eat in mornings, of having the same thing every day, in a rush, as we make our way out of the house. Starting the day slowly, with a breakfast that we enjoy, is an act of kindness towards ourselves that can help us feel bright and energised. And since we wake up feeling differently every day, why not try varying our breakfast and adapting it to our different moods?

We vary the food we have for lunch and dinner as a way of balancing out our diets and as a response to how we feel at different times. How often have you stood gazing at the open fridge, or spent ages staring at the menu in a restaurant asking yourself, what do I feel like eating? Then, if we are feeling cold or a little bit under the weather we might choose a warm soup. Or if it’s a hot day and your limbs are heavy and you want something that will end the lethargy, you might look for something fresh, a salad maybe. And if you are simply starving, all you need is a big plate of pasta to keep your smile wide. We make all these choices because we want to feel better. So, why not do the same thing with our breakfast?

Varying food is not just a matter of instant gratification. It is a way of obtaining a wider range of nutrients that will help you stay healthy, active and happy (food really is the stuff that dreams are made of). In this article, you will find a few ideas that can help youshake up your breakfast routine.

Typically, a healthy breakfast will contain at least three of these food types: fruits, wholegrains, vegetables, proteins and “good” fats. The balance of these will depend on how your body is feeling and what you are expecting to do that day.

It is sometimes hard to keep our diets varied due to habit, time and because we are limited by what is available in the store. Smoothies are an easy way of having many different types of fruits and vegetables in your fridge, keeping their multiple benefits at hand. We think it is a wonderful way of consuming fruits that are hard to find and combining them in ways that will be beneficial to you. That is why we like adding them to our breakfast.

Here some breakfast ideas to inspire you in your mornings:

The Bright and Sunny

When you wake up feeling active and in a great mood, this breakfast will be the fuel of your day!

-Wholegrain toast with avocado, a poached egg and some drops of olive oil.

Add the Mango, Pineapple and Orange Juice for a refreshing boost of vitamin C.

The Weekend Treat:

Pancakes are easier to make than they look and are great to share with family or friends. Here is our suggestion:

-Pancakes

Toppings: chocolate, homemade berries jam, lemon juice, honey, cashews, walnuts… anything you can think of, get creative!

Combine it with our Apple, Kiwi and Pineapple smoothie. Its bitter-sweet flavour gives a delicious contrast to the pancakes sweetness.

Blue Mondays

Everyone feels blue sometimes and that’s OK. Eating well and having a healthy breakfast might not be the solution to how you feel but it can definitely give you an energy boost. Try having this:

-Greek yoghurt with oats, walnuts, roasted pecans and cranberries.

Berries are said to be a natural mood-booster, so why not complete your breakfast with our Strawberry, Raspberry and Blueberry smoothie?

The 4 x 4

You are going to spend the day running from place to place (work, meetings, studying, deadlines…) and your mind is already running at 100 miles per hour. Since the rest of your day is looking hectic no matter what, choose to take it easy in the morning. Slow down and eat something that will keep you on the go.

Oatmeal with walnuts, linseed, chia and cinnamon.

The tropical Mango, Banana and Passionfruit will give you extra goodness and combines deliciously with this breakfast.
